Can Crooked Teeth Be Straightened Without Metal Braces?

Often, yes. Many cases of crowded teeth, spacing, forward teeth and certain bite problems can be treated with clear aligners such as Invisalign. Suitability depends on the type and severity of tooth and jaw movement required, gum health, age and treatment goals. A clinical examination and digital scan are necessary before recommending treatment.

Clear aligners work by applying gentle, controlled forces to move teeth incrementally using a series of custom-fitted transparent trays. Each set of aligners is worn for a prescribed period before advancing to the next stage of treatment.

Not all orthodontic problems are suitable for clear aligner treatment. Complex skeletal problems — where the jaw itself is not positioned correctly — typically require additional treatment approaches. This is why diagnosis must come before any recommendation.

“We don’t begin with Invisalign. We begin with your problem.”

Clinical Insight

Why Correcting Teeth Alignment Can Matter Beyond Your Smile

Straight teeth are the visible result. A correctly planned bite is the foundation.

Cleaning Difficulties

Overlapping teeth may make brushing and flossing more difficult and allow plaque to remain in inaccessible areas.

Tooth Wear

An unfavourable bite can place excessive forces on certain teeth over time.

Chewing

Some bite problems can affect the way teeth contact during chewing and jaw function.

Gum Health

Cleaning crowded or overlapping teeth can be consistently challenging, affecting gum health.

Jaw & Bite Function

Tooth position and bite relationships should be evaluated as part of the overall dental examination.

Confidence

Many patients simply avoid smiling openly because they dislike the appearance of their teeth.

“The goal isn’t simply straighter front teeth. It is a smile that looks good and functions well.”

Suitability Guide

Could Invisalign Work for Your Problem?

Starting with the patient’s experience, not the dental textbook.

“My teeth look crowded — there’s no room for them all”

“Some of my teeth twist or lean to one side”

“Two of my teeth seem to sit on top of each other”

“I have a noticeable gap between my front teeth”

“My upper front teeth stick out too far”

“My upper teeth cover too much of my lower teeth”

“My front teeth don’t touch when I bite down”

“My upper and lower teeth cross on one side”

“My lower teeth seem to be in front of my upper teeth”

“My upper arch looks narrow compared to my lower teeth”

“My teeth were straight then moved again after treatment”

“My case was told to be complex — can aligners still help?”

Important: Not every orthodontic problem can or should be treated with clear aligners. Complex skeletal or dental problems may require braces, additional appliances, multidisciplinary treatment or surgery. Suitability is determined after diagnosis — never before.

Not Every Crooked Tooth Needs Invisalign.

And not every person who wants Invisalign should receive it.

The treatment system is only one tool. Diagnosis determines the treatment. At GardenCity Smiles, we first assess your teeth, gums, bite, dental arches and treatment objectives. If another treatment would give you a better or more predictable result, we will explain that.

For Adults

Want Straighter Teeth Without Looking Like You're Wearing Braces?

Many adults postpone orthodontic treatment because they do not want fixed metal braces to become part of their professional or social identity. Clear removable aligners can make treatment less visually intrusive for suitable cases — whether you’re in client meetings, giving presentations, attending weddings or photographed at social events.

High-Intent Concern

Had Braces Before — But Your Teeth Have Moved Again?

Orthodontic relapse is common enough that many adults notice crowding, rotations or spacing returning years after previous treatment. This is not necessarily a reflection of poor original treatment — teeth have a natural tendency to shift, and retention is essential to preserving any orthodontic result.

Clear aligners are well-suited to correcting mild-to-moderate relapse. The approach at GardenCity Smiles includes assessing what caused the relapse in the first place, so a better retention plan can be built into the new treatment.

For Families

Worried About Your Child's Developing Teeth or Bite?

Signs that prompt parents to seek an orthodontic assessment include front teeth sticking forward, crowding that becomes visible as permanent teeth erupt, crossbite, teeth not meeting properly, and a narrow-looking upper arch.

Early assessment allows Dr. Deepthi Kalahasti to determine whether treatment is required immediately, whether monitoring is appropriate, or whether treatment should wait until more permanent teeth have erupted.

What if my child mouth-breathes or snores?
Persistent mouth breathing or snoring deserves proper evaluation because dental development is only one part of the picture. Depending on the findings, an orthodontic assessment may be combined with evaluation by an ENT specialist, paediatrician or sleep physician. Clear aligners are not a treatment for sleep apnoea.

What Determines the Cost of Invisalign Treatment?

Invisalign treatment cost depends on the complexity of the orthodontic problem, number of tooth movements required, treatment duration, aligner programme and whether additional procedures are necessary. An accurate fee can only be provided after assessing the teeth and bite.

Simple correction

Minor spacing or crowding with limited movement

Shorter treatment

Moderate correction

Multiple teeth, rotations, bite involvement

Mid-range treatment

Complex correction

Bite problems, significant movement, multiple arches

Longer treatment

An accurate fee for your specific case can only be confirmed after a clinical examination and iTero scan at GardenCity Smiles. Fee is not determined by simple correction alone — the bite and supporting structures are also considered.

Patient Questions

Questions Patients Ask Before Straightening Their Teeth

Every answer is written to give you accurate, useful information — not to push you towards treatment.

Often, yes. Many cases of crowded, crooked or overlapping teeth can be treated with clear aligners such as Invisalign. Suitability depends on the type and severity of tooth movement required, gum health, age and treatment goals. A clinical examination and digital scan are necessary before recommending treatment.

Treatment depends on the degree of overlap and the underlying cause. Mild-to-moderate overlapping can often be corrected with clear aligners. More severe crowding may require additional procedures. An in-person assessment is needed to recommend the most appropriate approach.

Many cases of forward or protruding teeth can be corrected without traditional metal braces using clear aligners. Whether Invisalign is suitable depends on whether the problem comes primarily from tooth position, jaw relationship or both. A dentist needs to assess the bite and supporting structures before choosing treatment.

Yes, Invisalign can close many types of gaps between teeth (spacing or diastema). The suitability depends on the size of the gap, the position of adjacent teeth and the overall bite. A clinical assessment determines whether aligner treatment is appropriate.
Invisalign can treat many deep-bite cases. The aligners are designed with specific features to help control vertical tooth movement. Complex skeletal deep-bite problems may require additional treatment. Diagnosis determines which approach is best.
Anterior open bites can often be treated with Invisalign in selected patients. Posterior open bites and skeletal open bites are more complex. A thorough clinical and radiographic assessment is necessary before recommending treatment.
Many posterior and anterior crossbites can be corrected with Invisalign, particularly when the crossbite is dental rather than skeletal in origin. Skeletal crossbites may need additional or alternative treatment.

Yes. Orthodontic relapse is common, and clear aligners are well-suited to correcting mild-to-moderate relapse. The current tooth position, bite and gum health are assessed first, and a new retention plan is included to prevent future movement.
Limited or anterior-only treatment is possible in some cases. However, treating only the front teeth without addressing the overall bite may not produce a stable or healthy result. Dr. Deepthi Kalahasti will assess whether limited treatment is appropriate for your specific situation.

Late lower incisor crowding is common in adults and occurs as a result of natural jaw changes, continued growth and the pressure of lip and tongue forces. If the crowding is mild and gum health is good, clear aligners can be suitable.
Yes. Overlapping and crowded teeth create areas that are difficult to clean with a toothbrush or floss. This can allow plaque and food debris to accumulate, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum inflammation over time.
Clear aligners are suitable for adults of any age provided the teeth and supporting structures are healthy. Many adult patients over 30 or 40 at GardenCity Smiles choose Invisalign precisely because it fits discreetly into their professional and social life.

Invisalign Teen is designed specifically for adolescent patients whose permanent teeth have erupted. It includes compliance indicators and additional aligner sets. Suitability depends on the orthodontic problem and patient cooperation. A clinical assessment is required.

The choice between braces and clear aligners depends on the type and complexity of the orthodontic problem, patient lifestyle preferences and treatment objectives. At GardenCity Smiles, Dr. Deepthi Kalahasti discusses both options and recommends what is most appropriate after diagnosis.
Most patients experience mild pressure or discomfort for the first few days after fitting a new set of aligners. This is a normal response to tooth movement and usually settles quickly. Invisalign is generally considered more comfortable than traditional fixed braces.

Invisalign aligners should be worn for approximately 20 to 22 hours per day for effective treatment. They are removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing and flossing.
Yes. This is one of the key advantages of removable clear aligners. They are removed for all meals and snacks, so there are no dietary restrictions.
A short adjustment period of a few days is common. Most patients adapt quickly and speak normally. Any initial lisp or change in articulation typically resolves within a week.
Yes. Retainers are an essential part of orthodontic treatment. After active aligner treatment, teeth have a natural tendency to shift. A personalised retention plan is provided at GardenCity Smiles to maintain the corrected result.
Invisalign treatment cost depends on the complexity of the orthodontic problem, the number of tooth movements required, treatment duration, the Invisalign programme selected and whether additional procedures are necessary. An accurate fee can only be provided after assessing the teeth and bite.
An iTero scanner is a digital intraoral scanner that captures a precise 3D model of the teeth and bite without the need for traditional impression materials. At GardenCity Smiles, the iTero scanner is available in-house and is used for Invisalign treatment planning and bite assessment.
Standard Invisalign aligners are not a treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea. If snoring, mouth breathing or sleep-disordered breathing is suspected, GardenCity Smiles evaluates relevant dental and jaw factors and may recommend assessment by an appropriate medical specialist. Orthodontic treatment may form part of care in selected patients when a relevant dental or jaw-development problem exists.
An orthodontic assessment is recommended as soon as forward teeth or bite problems are noticed in a child. Early assessment allows the dentist to determine whether treatment is required immediately, whether monitoring is appropriate, or whether treatment should wait until more permanent teeth have erupted.
Invisalign First is available for younger patients with mixed dentition (a combination of baby and adult teeth). Suitability depends on the specific dental development stage and the nature of the problem. A clinical assessment is required.
